Hi Folks - No news yet from BMG about the album with the new songs. Nothing came through today. As soon as I hear anything, I will post it here. Someone asked me whether Yellowstone would be included - somehow, I don't think so! - peace DG

Hello Family - Forgot to add in previous message. Christine Eglie - President of JDMAS, sent an E-mail to a number of people the other day. A friend of hers picked up a JD CD in Singapore Airport titled IN MEMORY OF JOHN DENVER, which is released by LaserLight. Christine wanted to know how to buy the CD - well it is available to buy from International Disc, as It is listed in their JD Store. Does anyone have this album, and what is the track listing? - peace DG

Songs

Thank you all for your wonderful contributions as to which songs you do and don't like. Keep the discussion going. It proves that even though we all love the same artist, we all still have different tastes. I was scolded by Rory about my dislike to the Eagle and the Hawk many months ago. Back Home Again is the song that sold me on JD, so it will always be a favorite. Bet On The Blues, Two Shota and Druthers, I don't really like either. Starwood In Aspen has always been a favorite - well it would have to be - my nickname online. PP&P is my #1, and For You from the Unplugged Collection / Love Again albums is a fav, especially holding that note for so long!!!!!!!!! I hope one of the record companies release I'm Kissing You Goodbye and yellowstone one day on CD. I have copies of them on tape, but they lack the CD quality - peace DG

Songs

Hi Everyone - I was just wondering if there are some of John's songs that people don't particularly like. I used to dislike I Want To Live and The Wings That Fly Us Home, but I love both now. I could not see the attraction with the latter when I first heard it, but it was from the LP and very crackly. I don't particularly like Annie's Song at present - it just doesn't do anything for me. And I have never liked The Eagle and The Hawk. This is too loud a JD song for my liking. Not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings. Even though we all follow the same artist, we all still have different tastes. BTW, I heard a few weeks ago that US mail (snail mail) has dropped 10% since the introduction of the internet. I thought it would have been more than that - peace DG

An Evening With John Denver

Hi Everyone - I was just wondering if anyone who frequents here was at the concerts back in August 1974 when the Evening With album was recorded in LA. Neil Diamond's album - "Hot August Night" was also recorded around that time, also in LA. A man I work with who was in the Royal Australian Navy at that time was stationed in the US at that time and was at the "Hot August Night" taping! I know quaite a number were at the recording of the Wildlife Concert. Also - from those who have already bought the "Colors In Time" album, does anyone else think that Michael Jackson's old song "Ben" seems to be starting up when "Sunshine On My Shoulders" starts? Sorry Chris and Pete! - peace DG

BMG

Hi Everyone. I wasn't going to tell you all this yet, as I don't want to spoil it, or get people's hopes up. BMG Australia will be releasing a concert CD and video in the first 3 months of next year. This is the same as the Japanese Videoke release, but with just the concert section. It was taped in Newcastle Australia in November, 1994. I saw John the night after here in Canberra. I am not sure of the track listing, but it should include El Paso, Ponies, Is It Love, PP&P, RMH, Falling Out Of Love, Ponies, etc. The BMG Exec also said that some albums already released will be rereleased with better sound and packaging. Also, some but not all of "JD", "Autograph", "Live In London" and "Rocky Mountain Holiday" will also be released soon. Also, BMG Australia will be releasing additional compilation albums, with the addition of some less well-known songs, but they have to still include the hits, which make the albums sell. So, some encouraging news. I also asked about unreleased songs - there was no comment at this stage. He has also asked to run compilation releases by me - peace DG

General

Hi My JD Family - I am working on an update to the alphabetical song listing page. It will look much better than the present version, and will contain information from a number of additional albums. Just a word or warning about copying albums for others. If the album is freely available, then try and avoid copying it. It is a breach of copyright, and if the wrong people find out, then you could be in serious trouble with the law. The hard to get albums are a different story. If you can find someone who has a copy of these hard to find albums, and they will copy it/them for you, well and good. Be wary about offering it on this forum, you never know who visits here. I will not be going to any of the 12 month memorials. It is too far and too expensive from Down Under, especially with family. I was hoping that those of us who can't make it, could all play about half a dozen songs at the same time, like we did last Easter. So we need to choose 6 or so special JD songs - starting with "The Wings That Fly Us Home". Any other suggestions! - peace DG

Aussie Tapes

Hi Family - It seems that some people are taking too long to tape the Aussie Tapes I sent to the US last Christmas. Some have asked where they are on the list, and others have asked to be taken off, as it is taking too long. Please, E-mail ahead and ask the next person if they have the time to receive and tape the tapes, and please tape them as soon as possible, and mail them to the next person. Everyone down the list wants to still see them hopefully. I finally got to see the JD Memorial Service this last week. My in-laws have an NTSC playback VCR. I was hoping to tape it to our PAL system, but it played up. I got to see most of it, and will pay for it to be copied into PAL her. I doubt if I could have watched it when it was on, if we had received a live broadcast at the time. It was great to see what I did, and I look forward to seeing the end fairly soon - peace DG

John

For months now I have been thinking it over in my mind about the death of John Denver and how it has affected all of us. This sacrifice of life has unified a world family, but I still cannot believe John is dead. I cannot believe that he went in the way he did. I have been hoping that it was all a bad dream, and that we can still enjoy those concerts and new songs. But alas that is not to be. At first I was hoping that it was someone else who was flying the plane. The loss has to be the biggest loss in my life - far bigger even than the loss of my mother. I keep on thinking about it, and the senseless loss of such a man. I am still hoping that one day we may find out that it was not our John who was killed - it was someone else. If only he had taken on more fuel. If only he had not gone for that extra flight time and landed after those touch and go landings. If only…….. But why our John. I always thought John was above this sort of thing - this could never happen to him - peace DG

Hello Family - For those interested in some JD Trivia - I have a list of 36 albums that Annies's Song appears on. That does not include the 5 or so clone copies of the An Evening With JD albums. There are however 4 studio versions and four live versions of this song. I think this is a good enough explanation of why we should reject future compilation albums. This only included the listings from the albums I know of - there are many more compilation albums out there - mainly in Europe, that I do not have listings for - peace DG

JD Albums

I was talking to a friend today - he is a big Bob Dillan fan. Apparently Dillon left a record company in the 1970s, and recorded with another - the original record company threatened to release his unreleased songs if he did not return to them. Dillan returned to the original company after one album. There were enough songs recorded to put together 13 albums. Let's hope there are a few songs in the RCA, Windstar and Sony vaults to fill a few albums with new JD songs for us. Remember the "It's About Time" album had one extra song on the CD release than the LP release. According to a note in Emily's July 98 Newsletter, John's album JD may be released on CD in August - there is hope yet for the others. And on the release of albums onto CD - wouldn't it be nice if Mercury released the four Mitchell Trio albums onto CD as well. The earlier albums of the Chad Mitchell Trio are released on CD. Maybe we could lobby Mercury for these to be released on CD. Talking of these albums, I now have all four on LP - picked up the last one today. Finally, wondering what happened to Renee Armand, who was a background singer with John during the late 1970s - the back of the JD LP shows she marrie and hyphenated her surname to Renee Armand-Horn. Does anyone know if it was Jim Horn that Renee married? - peace DG

General Comments

Hi Family - TO THIRSTY BOOTS - The five Japanese CD's are: Rhymes & Reasons, Take Me To Tomorrow, Whose Garden Was This, Aerie and Spirit. So if you want any of these on CD - make your order quickly, as they may not be around for long. Re the colourful page, last Tuseday at work I got a new computer, and i started fiddling with a graphics program I have, and it can display thumbnail images of the images in a selected folder, and as the size of the screen was set differently to the older computer I had, it revealled more images than the older one. I also have a program called Paint Shop, which can capture any image on a screen. The selected images are actually three, which display 109 images of John and his albums. If anyone would like files of these three images, please E-mail me, and I will see what I can do - peace DG

Hello Family - I was in contact

with International Disc last week, checking out current CD prices and mailing costs overseas. Along the way, they told me that they are setting up a John Denver shop on their site, which will be up and running around the middle of next week. International Disc have a great selection of John Denver albums to choose from, and are about the only store to offer all 5 of the Japanese Imports, as well as most of the other releases. They also carry the double An Evening With album on CD, which is the same as the original LP release. Remember, the US release and some other versions of this album are cut. ID also carry some of the European compilation albums. So keep an eye out for the new site. I will post it here when I find out it is on-line, and there will be a direct link from my home page as well. Happy hunting to those still buying JD albums. Don't forget, I have a price comparison page on my site, so check out the best prices if you are buying on-line. Check the link on the bottom of my Discography index page. Not all stores carry all of the albums, and not= all of the albums are available on-line. To anyone searching for the autobiography set on-line, do a search under Arhtur Tobier. In most on-= line stores, Disc 2 is the only one shown under JD. This is a beautiful set,= and a must - peace DG

JD Albums

Hi Family - I posted a message here a couple of days back about a new album from LaserLight - Rocky Mountain High - The Very Best of John Denver. Apparantly, there is another one also - Country Roads, The Very Best of John Denver. The RMH one is a cut down of the 5 CD set released last year, and I would suspect that this CR album is similar. If anyone has the song listing for the CR album, please E-mail me with the list. BTW - I am still a little tired. I am trying to get to bed earlier, and taking a walk in my lunchtimes. There is a park opposite where I work, and it is on the side of a lake. Friday was so cold and windy! - peace DG

Hello Family - A new album has been released from LaserLight - "The Very Best of John Denver - Rocky Mountain High" (Emily - Another album titled ?Rocky Mountain High? to add to the confusion). The tracks are: Sunshine On My Shoulders; Whispering Jesse; Eagle and the Hawk; I Watch You Sleeping; For You; Calypso; I Want to Live; Rocky Mountain High; To the Wild Country; The Chosen Ones; The Foxfire Suite; Ponies; The Flower That Shattered the Stone; and American Child. It is a cut down version of the 5 CD set they released last year, and these are the tracks from the Windstar albums, not the RCA albums. Some on-line stores carry it already, not sure which ones as yet. It is US$6.87 from CD Connection. Thanks to Anne Schnitz for providing me with this information. For Aussie fans, I am checking with MRA of Brisbane to see if they will be bringing it into country for availablilty probably through the Sanity stores, and some others - peace DG

The Wings That Fly Us Home

Tim Golder is a fan from Australia who writes a column for our local Fan Club Newsletter - Celebrate. Tim recently quoted the song - The Wings That Fly Us Home - as being a very popular song amongst John's fans worldwide - A song that was, as far as I am aware, not released as a single; has never appeared on a live album, or 'best of' collection, and is from an album which was not successful commercially, and since John's death seems so apt. Also, the album until about 12 months ago was not available on CD, but now is an expensive Japanese import. Thanks Tim - peace DG

I would just like to echo some points that have been made on the FGP over the past few days. If you want to quarrel with someone over an issue, do it via your E-mail between you and anyone else. I don't like seeing such business on this site, and I am sure John wouldn't either. Please keep it away. My wife went away this morning our time, leaving me with the children. Within an hour, I found one of them swinging from a skipping rope in one of the bedrooms. The rope was attached to the light in the ceiling, and it broke the light, exposing some live wires. Needless to say, I was not amused. I was able to get the wiring fixed, but it needs a new fitting for the globe. Our lights are bayonet fittings, and that part broke. I hope I can get a replacement. Kids, they make you wonder sometimes! On a nicer note, visit the Sand Dollar Designs page in the UK. Steve Rafferty has some beautiful JD prints available. You will find a link on my home page - under JD prints - peace DG

Hello Family - someone asked me why my posts come out different to most of the rest. This is because I am using the E-mail facility from my work to post to this page. Rory is aware of it and will fix it up soon. To view these posts, highlight them - peace DG

Violets of Dawn

Hi Everyone - Violets of Dawn is the latest addition to my vinyl collection. It was expensive, but worth it. I have one more to get - That's The way It's Gonna Be - I had it in my hands yesterday also, but couldn't quite afford it as well. I'll have to save for it - peace DG

Hello everyone - Dreaux, loved your comments about being obsessive with JD and his concerns. Thanks also to Belle Davis. Belle copied the E Special into our PAL TV format, and the tape arrived yesterday. That special was great. I have updated another page on my pages on the net. I have accessed a number of on-line CD stores and compiled a list of all the JD albums and prices for a number of different stores. To access the page, go to my home page: http://austin1.com/JD/David/home.htm , then go to the Discography link, then scroll down to the buying on-line link, then scroll down to the price comparison link. Sorry, but I am at work, and I cannot remember the address of that page at the moment. If you find what you are after, there are direct links on that page to all of the different stores - peace DG

I was reading some of the posts at lunch time, as I now have access to the net at work, and it disturbs me to see a few people having problems with partners and others you live with. I get this constantly. My wife has her passions and differences. I tell her she is different, but she does not believe me. She has her idiosyncrosies that I see as being completely different to anyone else I have ever known, but she says that they are normal. Who am I to argue with her logic? I constantly get told in no uncertain terms by my wife and children not to talk too much JD, and not to listen to too much of his music, and why should I worship and admire someone who is dead? I guess it is hard for those who were not 'touched' by John to understand. I have a passion - it is obsessive-compulsive, and I know it. I try to temper my passion to those who are around me all the time, but with this sort of a passion, we have to vent it somewhere, and those we are in contact with all the time receive it, whether they want it or not. In my meeting with Diane Cole yesterday, I invited another young lady along who is another fan here in Canberra, but she does not have net access. I could sense at time that she was getting overwhelmed at times, and was losing it - much of it going over her head, as she is not exposed to it constantly, as we all are with our net access. I think we all need to take a break now and then, and get away from it all - trouble is, now with the number of postings here, it takes a week to catch up if you are away for a week - how long would it be if we were away for a month. I think we should all sit down with the people we share our homes with and say to them that we will all temper our enthusiam, if they drop nagging us in return! So everyone take a deep breath, and soak up a few good vibes, and give our selves to our families and friends for a little while - peace DG

Hello all - On Sunday I picked up a copy of the first JD Radio Show LP. It is in reasonable condition for its age, but is not in excellent condition. I could not resist it, and I think it was worth every cent that I paid for it. On a sour note, unfortunately, there are some people out there who are sending blanket E-mails to a list of about 200 people about JD stuff. I think many of us are getting tired of these endless messages. If you have something to say that has to go to 200 people, then it is worth putting on here. While it is nice to get an E-mail on JD Information that you feel is important, many don?t feel it is that important. Please place your messages here for all to see. I am always getting responses at my work address saying to take someone off that list. The message is set up so that when a response is given, it goes to all addressees. Please stop this, as it is most annoying. I have received so many messages, yet only once or twice have I received a personal one on one E-mail from the starter. I am also guilty of sending blanket E-mails to a number of people, but I don?t do it all the time. To me, a blanket E-mail is an impersonal item. But a message placed here is much more credible. Sorry if this offends some - peace DG

Ok - gooday all - and what a day. I met with another fan from Canberra and with our friend from this page - Diane Cole who is from Perth in Western Australia. We had 3 hours together and it was the best time ever - swapping JD stories, etc. I could not have asked for a better time, and she is such a lady. It was great to finally meet another fan from this page. On another note, I have added the Playboy Interview to my pages. It is all on one page, unlike the original, and is located at: http://austin1.com/JD/David/Misc/playboy.htm And last but no means least - HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSE BELLE !!!! - peace DG

First of all, happy Birthday to NAN - have a great day. Today is also a sad day for me - 7 years ago I lost my mother. On a happier note, Monday, I am meeting Diane Cole here in Canberra. Another fan - Cathie Robinson and I are meeting with her. She and her husband are coming here, so her husband can attend a conference for his work - I can't wait. Watch your news - there were some tram drivers / conductors in Melbourne who went the full Monty in protest over sacking conductors. And all our best to the Sinatra family. Another of the biggies has gone. I went to one of his concerts here in Aus in 1974. That was the tour he had with a lot of controversy! Also, check out a new page I have just added. The new Mitchell Trio album song listing and essay - it is a good one - located at http://austin1.com/JD/David/Discog/relate/tmt4.htm - peace DG

Help Required. I am trying to find some information on some obscure JD albums, mainly out of Europe. The German Music Express have these available, but as per usual, the on-line stores are not always obliging with song listings. Therefore, I would love the song listing for the following albums - 16 Great Songs - Cat No COUN023936; Best Of Live - Cat No COL5873902; Collection - cat No 01092; Gold Collection - Cat No MEDI462522; Greatest Hits Live - Cat No 025056; Greatest Hits & His favourites - Cat No DOUB024018; In Concert - Cat No HP934822; Wereldsterren/Best of - Cat No BMGA459924; and Zijn Grootste Successen - Cat No RCA0202429. If anyone can help, please E-mail as above or at home at: starwood@dynamite.com.au - peace DG

First of all, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the mothers out there. I tried to give my wife a break today by cooking roast chicken and veg for lunch, and an easy meal for me and the kids for tea. I was disappointed with the kids at lunch time, as they didn't want to do the dishes afterwards. RORY, have you had problems with this page lately, it has been very slow loading over the past 4 - 5 days, but seems to be quicker again today!! I played Greatest Country Hits today. It is not a bad selection of songs, but it is nothing new to our ears, which will mean it may sell well to the general public, but not to his fans. This is also a picture disc, and unfortunately, it is yet another mirrored image. Why does BMG keep on doing this? It is not bad enough that we now have to endure repeated compilations of the same songs, but also mirrored images all the time - peace DG

Colors In Time and Various

Hello Everyone - First of all, I have posted up to my site, the latest album information on the Colors In Time album, and the new Greatest Country Hits album. CIT is under Discography/Related index, and GCH is under the Discography. GCH has a fairly extensive essay provided in the booklet, which is now on-line. I also have the latest Chad Mitchell Trio album, which also has a long essay. This will appera when I have the time to type it all in. So many new projects - so little time. Also, not only did I find my namesake in the US, but there is another here in Australia - he lives on our Gold Coast just south of Brisbane. I e-mailed him yesterday, so far no response - peace DG

Postings

Hello Everyone. First of all, we now have net access at work, but I won't be able to use it too much. Secondly, Wednesday night my time, I found my namesake - there is another David Gorell. He lives in Wisconsin, and I couldn't resist, I phoned him. Having an uncommon surname, it is rare to find a namesake, although we have different middle names. The chat was a real buzz, and I am in the process of writing him a letter. He does not presently have E-mail - but may soon. peace DG

Hi Everyone - Yesterday I received 3 new albums on CD. One was Greatest Country Hits, a new and yet again another compilation album from the people at BMG / RCA. There is a nice essay within the booklet enclosed, most of which I have not read yet. But this really hurts - Mike Omansky wrote a few words which are inside the front cover of the booklet, some of the words are ?This album was planned prior to his death, and I had discussed it with John.? I was hurt by these words, as we all know that John had very little, if anything to do with many of the recent compilation albums released through BMG. Whether he did or not with this album, we will never know, but I really suspect that again John had nothing to do with this album. The only reason I got this particular album is because I am a John Denver completist, and I want all of the albums, no matter how many times some of the songs are released. This album contains 18 tracks, and they are the original versions of the songs, or live tracks, not the GH versions. BMG - when can we expect a compilation album with something radically different? I know we will not be getting any ?new? songs from BMG, but how about including the popular songs amongst his fans, like Let Us Begin, The Wings That Fly Us Home, etc., instead of Take Me Home, Annies Song, Sunshine, etc., all the time - peace DG

Colors In Time

I just want to echo the other comments on the page about Pete's and Chris's ne album - Colors In Time. It is absolutley beautiful, and thoroughly recommend it. My copy arrived today - along with Greatest Country Hits and The new Mitchell Trio album on CD. All are great additions to any JD collection, but CIT has soemthing special in it. Well done Pete and Chris. I have listened to most of it, but family commitments make it difficult to fully appreciate it - peace DG

Hi Everyone - I watched my new copy of Higher Ground last night. I thought it was the best acting John did. He palyed the part really well, even with many of his personal mannerisms coming through. The scenery was great. Does anyone know if John did his own flying - I should imagine he would have? Montana Christmas Skies was also sent to me on the end of the same tape, but the picture did not tape, and the sound was spead up. I have another copy of it, but it is very furry and obviously had been copied many times before I got it - peace DG

HAROLD - I was so pleased to read your response to receiving Chris's and Pete's new CD. I am getting it also, and it is coming to me via New Jersey, along with two other new JD related CDs. I now really can't wait to hear it. I saw the post from Pete late last week to say he had posted them out. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait another two weeks or so before they arrive here. This & That

Hello All - A few quick things today. I have been reviewing the Biographies Page, and through this I was hoping to add a birthdays list. I have started with those dates I have, and I would love to add all those who post regularly here. If you are shy about your age, then just send the month and day. Please send it to my home E-mail. Most of you who submitted a bio placed your age, but not your birthday. Please submit your full name, nickname and the name you use here if it is different. The birthday page is located at: http://austin1.com/JD/David/Misc/birthdays.htm I have also added a JD Notice Board Page. If you have a notice you would like added, please E-mail it to me, and I will gladly add it in. I have already added Vicki's and Ellen's message about the August get together, and Mary Ledford's paost about John's letter. Adding a message on the Notice Board page may be more beneficial than posting your message here a number of times, or if you E-mail it to many hundreds of people. The page is located at: http://austin1.com/JD/David/notice.htm peace DG!

Hi Everyone - Last night I was browsing the net, looking at some sites that interested me. I went to the Kenny Rogers site, mainly as he is touring Australia at present. On his home page, there is a caption saying that he has sold over 80 million albums in 40 years, which equates to one album sold every 15 seconds. So I took our John's figure of 100 million albums sold (he must be well over that by now), but I used a base of 100 million over 29 years (1969 to 1998), that came out to over 915 million seconds, which means over that 29 year period, one of John?s albums has been sold every 9.15 seconds - peace DG

Hi Everyone - Just a couple of quick items. Firstly, thanks to all who have commented back to me about your expeiences and feelings during our meditation time a couple of days ago. I have got a real buzz just knowing that so many got so much out of the whole thing. Even though I didn't get what I wanted, as long as some of you did - that was the aim of the exercise. I was also tickled when people mentioned that they typed in the words on the Chat Line - that is truly amazing! I would like to do something bigger and better for the 12 month anniversary in October, especially for those who can't get to Aspen or Monterey. I know I won?t be there, as my budget won't stretch that far. Maybe for that day, we can organise something a little longer, and we can be with the rest of you in spirit. Also, for those sending the Aussie video tapes around - whoever has the tapes at present, please E-mail me, I have an extra adressee to add. Also, who has information on getting the new Mitchell Trio on-line - where is it available from? I have done a quick search, and it eludes me - peace DG

Our Dedication Song(s)

Hello Everyone - It was great to see all your wonderful comments. It was 9.27 am Monday here, and I awoke to an overcast day. I set up 5 or six songs to play - starting with The Wings That Fly Us Home, and finishing off with Flying For Me - the song my wife wanted us all to play. The Wings That Fly Us Home

Hi Folks - Well, I hope you are all enjoying Easter. Only a matter of hours to go for the special tribute I would like you all to join in on. Please play "The Wings That Fly Us Home" with me at 5.27 pm Pacific Time today. It will be 9.27 am Monday here on the east coast of Australia. Some people are confused with the song. Please play The Wings That Fly Us Home or Rocky Mountain High starting at this time. Some other songs have been nominated. I will be playing a number of songs, including flying songs from the It's About Time album, and my wife wants me to play Flying For Me, so I will play them all. I have also contacted a talk-back radio show here in Aus, and hopefully they will join in by playing RMH. I have not received notice back as yet - keeping my fingers crossed. I will tape that segment of the show and play it back later. So, again, please join with me, and hopefully John Denver fans worldwide - peace DG

I'M BACK ! ! !

Hi Everyone - we're back. I had a great adventure heading out to sea on a new Navy ship under the shipbuilder's sea trials - what an experience - and me nearly sea sick. I came so close - Sea state 5 - 6, so it was pretty rough. Then I was home two nights, and we as a family headed up to se my father and my brother and his family for a long weekend. It was our first trip away in our new car - a great time had by all, and the car handled and travelled better than I ever expected. I have a large number of E-mails now to answer - please bear with me. I will get to them. Also, don't forget that it is next Sunday / Monday when we are all going to play one of two songs, all together at the one time. "The Wings That Fly Us Home" or "Rocky Mountain High" at 5.27 pm Easter Sunday - Pacific Time USA or 9.27 am EST Australia, or check your local time zone. It will be 11.27 pm GMT Sunday - peace to all - DG!

If you have a good clean joke you want to share with us, please E-mail it to me, and I will add it when I can. The current joke will be modified in a couple of days. I am going away with work mid this coming week, and I will be away from home and family. I will miss the action going on here, and it will take me a while to catch up when I get home. Also, please read the Biography pages on my site. Both the jokes and BIOS are under the Humerous and Miscellaneous category! - peace DG

Hi Everyone - I have noticed that a number of people now are attempting to write web pages themselves, and some are experiencing problems. I know that Rory does all the work himself with HTML script, which to many of us non-computer literate people can be a little daunting. If you want to write your own pages and are in this boat, go to the Claris Home Page, and download their HomePage program that will enable you to create your pages without all the hassle of knowing what all the so-called codes mean. Versions 2 and 3 are available. 2 is less memory intensive, but it does not come with the help files included. 3 comes with help files, but takes up much more of your hard disc space. Unfortunately, both come with a 30 day trial, but I found if you backdate the date on your computer, then they will still run. So give that a go. The Claris program works on windows and Macs. Some other programs may be available, but I haven?t found them yet, and the Microsoft program is not available for free trial. You can purcahase a number of these programs, but they are rather expensive - peace DG

The Wings That Fly Us Home

Hi Everyone. Don't forget to play the Wings That Fly Us Home at 5.27 pm Pacific Time (Westcoast USA) on Easter Sunday. I would like to see everyone playing this song at the same time. If you don't have it ,get it, and if you can't get it - the play Rocky Mountain High - the original version from the RMH album. Let's see if we can get a feeling going right around the world - peace DG

Hi Everyone - a couple of things to mention today. I received a new and updated BIO from our friend BJ in Cincinatti. It was a beautiful, but very sad story, and brought tears to my eyes. BJ - you are also a master of your craft, and I hope we remain friends. I hope to have her new BIO on-line for you all to read tomorrow. Last Friday, I received the new Rocky Mountain High - A Tribute CD, which is a great music only album of John's songs. It is a MUST for all JD fans, please, do yourselves a favour and get hold of this one. All the songs are done in Bluegrass fashion, and each song has a different and distinctive sound. In my mind, the best song is Some Days Are Diamonds, but most of the songs are treated really well. Sunshine was a little disappointing, as it is a little fast, and Jet Plane was hard to recognise at first. Again, overall, a very fine album, and thoroughly recommended. See my home page on how to order this album on-line - peace DG

Hi Everyone - great talking very briefly with a few of you yesterday on Peggy?s Chat Line. I bought an old JD magazine last weekend - John Denver Rocky Mountain Minstrel - 1976. It was a little expensive, but worth it. It has some great stories and photos, many of which are included in the booklets enclosed with the Rocky Mountain and Country Roads Collections. One thing I cannot understand is why they have to mirror some of the photos for different effects. It is so obvious sometimes, especially with button locations on shirts. Some of the photos I haven?t seen before, so I will include them on my site with upcoming new pages. There appears to be some great background information about some of John?s early solo albums as well, so when I get the time to key some information in (ha, ha!), you may see some great info on my site. I might cheat though, and scan it in!!! - peace DG

A couple of months ago, I asked if there was anyone who had a son or daughter who might be interested in being a pen pal with my daughter. We were successful, and now I am in search of another pen pal. This time it is for a friend of my daughter - so again, I am looking for someone with a son or daughter around the age of 10. Anyone interested, please email me at home at: starwood@dynamite.com.au. The little girls name is Amy MacDonald, and they have only just had the net and E-mail connected this last weekend. I don?t even have their E-mail address yet. Please check out your biographies on my home page. They are under the Miscellaneous and Humorous Information banner. Page 6 is still to be finalised. My page is located at: http://austin1.com/JD/David/home.htm - peace DG

<font color="#000000">Hi everyone. It was great to see the Grammy go to JD. It was Thursday afternoon here when the awards were given, but we don?t get to see it until tonight - Friday night. I will be watching. I saw highlights last night on our news - it looked to be a bit comical. They didn?t show John?s winning segment. Regarding the BIOS Page - I will be working on it over the weekend, so hopefully there will be some new changes by early next week. If anyone who has submitted BIOS already, if possible, please send me a scanned photo of yourselves - preferably in JPG format - but nearly any format will do - I can convert most formats to JPG. Also, send me your birthdays - if you don?t want to let on your age, leave the year blank Send them to my home E-mail address. I would like to place these adjacent to your BIOS. Also, send me your BIOS to my home E-mail address, if you haven?t already placed them here on this page. This will be a big exercise, but I think you will all enjoy them once they are up. I think for the size, I will be dividing them into 6 different pages, rather than the original 4 that is up at present. There are a few glitches with links to other pages within my pages. I hope to spend some time upgrading these also over the weekend - peace DG

Hi everyone. Just wanted to thank those who have already been to my new site, and to those who have picked up the mistakes. I am trying very hard to get the information up as quickly and as accurately as I can, but invariably mistakes creep in. Most of them I picked up, but hadn?t got around to fixing the mistake before someone noticed them. Within the next day or so, I hope to have the remaining main albums in place. If you have already accessed my pages, and go back again, make sure you refresh the page, as you may not be bringing up the latest version on your screen. After completing the albums, I want to get more links in place, so if you have a site, don?t fret yet. I want to get all the sites up for everyone to enjoy! If you have any album information that is not posted, please let me know the details. Similar to the format I have uploaded would be nice, and a scanned in image of the cover would add to the info as well - preferably around 350 square!!!!. Keep hold of it at present, as I have much more album info coming on the international scene, and albums related to JD, including the Mitchell Trio. Also - your E-mails are getting through to me, but I may be a little short with answers for a week or so. I am tagging E-mails for future reference - peace DG

Does anyone else have Paula's E-mail address, so Julia can contact Paula!!! To Rory: Thanks for the message about not forgetting my plight. I understand, especially when you posted about the rather large number of E-mails you have to reply to. I am in no hurry. To ALL: Don't forget to be in Peggy's Chat Room Friday night US time. I have put aside some time after my lunchtime Saturday to be on-line with you all for a chat - hope to see you all there! I am going away with work for a week in a week or so. I will miss you guys, but it will take awhile to catch up when I return. If you can tonight, watch the full moon rise. It has just come up here as I write this. Hi everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that a Canberra based computer company has developed a do-it-yourself program to clean up the Millennium Bug. This program was only going to be distributed to Aus and UK paries, but it seems there are others interested, so it will be distributed world-wide. So if you see this program, not sure what it is called, it was developed here in my home-town - peace DG

Hi everyone. I think the separate biography page idea is great. I am trying to get some pages up and running in association with Rory?s current pages, so when I get all that done, I will look at creating the bio page(s). I was going to start that up anyway, and maybe even people may like to send a recent photo in as well, so we can ?see? what you look like as well! I will let you all know when I am ready to go, and then for those who have already submitted bios, then they could tell me the location on this page, or resend it to me, then I could compile them into a central area for inclusion onto a page! - peace DG

Hi everyone. I write quite often via E-mail to a great friend I found on this page about 12 months ago. His name is Francis Hammock, and he lives in Iceland. I need someone elses opinion. Frank said he is interested in buying the Rocky Mountain Collection, but my thoughts are that if he doesn?t have this album, nor the Country Roads Collection, he would be better off stretching a little further in terms of money spent and buying the CR Coll, as it also contains all the tracks from the RM Coll, and in my mind the sound quality is also better. (Windsong as atested to by myself and Tim Gilleand is totally awesome) Unless you are a JD completist, I wouldn?t recommend buying both, but if you have neither, then the CR Coll would be a better option - Any thoughts anyone. I know most of the songs are contained on the various contemporary albums, but there are a few from the JD and Autograph albums not yet available on CD - peace DG

Windsong

To: Tim Gilleand - Tim, I just read your experience with the song of Windsong. Just after John died, the Country Roads Collection was released here in Australia, and I had taped many of the songs from that selection onto an audio tape so I could listen to them in my Walkman on the way home from work on the bus. I had just settled onto the bus this one afternoon and the song of Windsong started up. Many or most of the songs on the CR Coll I feel have been remastered much better than other CD releases, but with Windsong, I turned it up as loud as I could get it, and it sounded so wonderful and full of a sound - a sound I had never experienced with that song. I have not heard it like that since - it has come close, but no where near as good. It was something with the experience at the time - peace DG

Thanks

Many thanks to all of you who sent me an E-mail about the JD Live CD -1943 - 1997. I thought that the answer I got was what it was all about. I was overwhelmed by the responses. Other E-mails have come, so it may take me a while to respond. We have had one hectic day here - we went car hunting - to get a newer car. We went to about a dozen second hand car yards, and in the end decided on the first one we saw and liked. It is an 18 month old Ford Falcon Wagon. And we should have it by next weekend - as the state registration has to be changed, and an extra seat in the back for additional kids! Yippee - no more worrying about catching buses for me to and from work. I work about 10 miles from home, but the bus has to pass through the centre of the city to a couple of miles past, and that takes forever!! BTW - I was watching a video of a JD concert last night from England, and it reminded me of something. On the An Evening With JD album, John says in his intro that he wants people to sing a long, but restricts them to the choruses, then at the 1977 Sydney concert he says it similar, but adds, you don't even have to limit yourself to the choruses gang - but on the England tape he adds, but I do ask that you sing the same song I am singing! peace my friends, and thanks for being such a wonderful family - DG

Higher Ground

Tim Gilleand commented about the Higher Ground album. I bought it originally on LP when it was first released, and finally bought it on CD in the middle of last year. I had it on order from

a shop here in Canberra for a number of months, and finally bought it on CD in a second hand shop for 1/3 the cost of it new - and then I saw it just sitting in another shop (isn't it always the case). It is such a wonderful album. I must get it out again soon and play it. Windsong is still my favourite album, though. My wife is getting sick of Looking For Space - peace DG

Has anyone noticed that John is wearing the same clothes in the cover photos to both the Take Me To Tomorrow album cover and the Poems, Prayers and Promises album cover! I know this was the practice later in his career, when the same photo series was used on many cover designs, but this has just struck me, and is sort of unusual for that period. His hair style also looks similar in each shot, which makes me think that these two photos were taken on the same day - even though they appear on albums 2 and 4. It is also a shame that John didn?t at least use a change of clothing for the photo shoot for the 5 covers to The John Denver Collection. The sandals over the grey socks sort of gives it away. He also looks a little sad and lonely in some of those shots. Not trying to be picky - just some quirky observations. peace DG

Same song at the same time

To recap, what do other people think of all of us playing the same song at the same time, by all of us playing The Wings That Fly Us Home, at the 6 month anniversary of John's death, which happens to be Sun., 12th April, 1998 at 5.27 pm (Easter Sunday) Pacific Time (USA). I was also hoping that we could lobby our local radio stations to play any JD song at that particular time as well. It would be nice if they would play Wings, but outside devoted JD fans, that song is not that well known - so, who's for it - show me your support - peace DG!

Hi Everyone - Jan 26 is Australia Day - so we all had a long weekend. Gene Pitney is in Aus at present, and he interviewed on TV here this morning. I missed the beginning, but John was mentioned, when he came out here in 1983 to open the Sydney Entertainment Centre, and they mentioned that John was the one that made that show. It was true - he did. I saw John in cobncert later that week, and he was fantastic. Well done Broncos. Bio Continued:

I was born in a place called Albury, in the state of New South Wales. It is about four hours drive from Canberra. My date of birth was the 11th May, 1954, and I was the first son to Howard and Joesphine Gorell. I have one brother Tony (Anthony), who is nearly 4 years younger than me. Dad had worked for the Ford Motor Company in Geelong, and continued on there during WWII. He did not go to war. After the war he moved away from home, to Albury, about 200 miles north of Geelong, where he met mum. They were married on the 18th February, 1950. They built a home together, she worked in a local department strore, and he worked in a car yard selling cars, as a saleman for a life insurance company, and as a motor mechanic on VW's. In 1963, Dad's health was not the best, and he didn't like the cold weather in Albury, so we packed up and moved north to the warm climate of Queensland - and Brisbane. Dad got work in a real estate agency. We rented a flat, and then found a house that we called home for two years. Then in the middle of 1965, Dad had 2 months in hospital with Tuberculosis, which he pulled through. He lost his job, and then found work as an Electrolux salesman - selling vacuum cleaners and floor polishers. In early 1966, his job took us to Bundaberg (Bundy) - 250 miles north of Brisbane - for five years. Later I learned that my parents hated Bundy - but those were my most formative years, and I loved the place. It was only 8 miles inland, and I loved the beach. The business failed in late 1970, and we called a family meeting - about moving to Sydney or Brisbane - Sydney won hands down, so we packed up yet again and moved to Sydney. Dad got work sorting mail - where he stayed until he retired at age 65 in 1984. During this time, I went to about a dozen different schools - the longest for 3 years, and the shortest for one day, as it was located next door to a prison! I had my tonsils out at age 7, but with none of the complications associated with Rory's. TV came to Australia in the late 1950's, but we didn't get our first set til the end on 1963 when we moved to Brisbane. I have some vague memories of listening to radio when we lived in Albury. We never had any form of record players or tape players during our formative years. The only music in our home coming from the radios. Dad never really had time for relaxation, and hated music being played when he was at home. He thought that music should only be played in the background, and at half the volume you listen to the TV at. (Nowadays he listens to talkback radio whenever he can.) We got our first tape player at the end of 1972, in my final year of high school. I bought my first and present hi-fi in June 1975, and GH#1 was one of my first LP's. I still have that amplifier, and the speakers, which are now my second pair. I graduated from High School at the end of 1972, with a very bad average - I hated those last two years of school, it was a different school, and I hated it because it was a different system, and I was not allowed to study a particular subject as a separate unit, it had to be taken within another subject - the rest of which did not interest me as much. Anyway, the day after the final exam, I went to the local Employment Agency and found out where the jobs were, and applied for 8 - 7 with drafting firms and one with a bank. I was accepted by half - which I thought was OK. The job I eventually got was with the Navy as a Trainee Draftsman in Naval Architecture - but along the way, I took a job for a month as an electrical trainee draftsman. I must have looked a real dag back then - the early 1970's. My suit at that time was plum in colour, and I even wore orange and purple trousers to work -yuk! Anyway, I studied Naval Architecture at Sydney Technical College between 1973 and 1977. I was very shy - girlwise - and never had a girlfriend through any of my school years. I started playing tennis in June 1975, and fell in love with a young lady - 3 years older than me. Vicki was her name, and she was also my first serious girlfriend. We were married in January, 1977, and we separated in January, 1978 - ten days short of our first wedding anniversary, and five days before I found out I had passed my final exams in NA. This was really disappointing, as I needed someone close to share passing my courses. We had no children - at least none I know of. I could not live in the flat we were renting, so moved back in with my parents, with the intent of getting back on my feet, then finding a place of my own. Two and a half years later, I was still there, although they had moved from an apartment to a house in Sydney. I had a job promotion prospect, which would move me to Canberra, if I wanted it. I did, so in September, 1980, I moved. I moved into a co-ed hotel type place where it was sort of wall to wall parties (at least in the group I eventually broke into - some of these people are still my best friends here in Canberra). I don't know how I ever went to work and concentrated in those days. I was 26 at that stage. The summer of 1980/81 was the best of my life - The summer of my 27th year - and the time I settled after a turbulant period of upheavals lasting 16 years! I lasted 17 months in that place - Gowrie Hostel. My best friend through these great days was called Stuie - a real dinky-di Aussie, who would do anything for you - only problem was that he was an alcoholic! This is also the place where I met my wife, Julie. Five of us moved out into a group house - three guys and two girls. Julie was not one of the girls. That lasted 12 months, and so far, the only group house I have lived in. A great year, but taxing at times. After that, I moved into a one bedroom flat about 5 minutes walk from where Julie was living in a group house. About six months later, I snagged a two bedroom flat in the same block. Julie moved in when we got married on the 3rd March, 1984. We bought our first and current home in May, 1985, and picked up the keys the day before my birthday. We have 3 children, Lisa 10, Stephen 6 and Katie 4. I was fortunate to be at each of the births, and for all cases, they were normal. (For those of you who get to see the video tapes I have sent to the US - the 1988 Australia Day Concert that John was in when he sang For You, Sing Australia and Calypso, that was the night that our Lisa was born, and Julie was in labor at the time. I walked out of the delivery room to go to the bathroom, and walked passed the lounge, and there was John on the TV singing those songs.) I have picked up a few promotions along the way with work, and I am fairly happy with what I do. It can be interesting and boring at times, as with all work. I am not a computer wizard. I have not studied any computer courses, only picked things up as I go - but the internet intrigues me, and I want to learn more. I am not a christian - but I was brought up in a christian home - in the anglican faith. I have my own beliefs. I believe there is something out there that is looking over us - but I am not sure what. Julie is a christian, and we are bringing up our children in a christain home, until they are old enough to form their own opinions. I want to travel - I want to see more of our great country, and see certain parts of Europe and North America. I have only been out of Australia twice - to New Zealand and Fiji. Three times - if you count going to Tasmaina! My mother died in 1991 from a heart attack, about 3 weeks before Stephen was born. That was a pretty horific period, as we had our own problems at home to deal with, with Julie being 8 1/2 months pregnant, and had to get back home the day after the funeral, in case of any problesm, so we could be in our own environment, and control it oursleves. dad coped fairly well, but cannot talk much about it. He holds onto his emotions. I found it very difficult to help him move away from that place in March last year. Even though I only lived there for 11 months, and it was not the original family home, it was the last place I saw my mother, and the last place I lived with my parents and brother as a family unit. I went through a rather tough few weeks then, as I also had to move job locations, which threw much of my whole world upside down. But, my work improved dramtically, and I came through it. Interests - my intersests are John Denver, John Denver and John Denver - no seriously, it is John Denver, some sports, and I like renovating, as I have done much of the renovating on our home. I rate my passion for John Denver and his music as obsessive-compulsive - but I know it. I have to temper it at home and at work, as the people around me don't understand it. Julie will only tolerate John's music in small doses, and as long as I don't play the same songs over a number of times. I wish there were more fans close by, as I really want to speak face to face to them. Well that's it, I look forward to reading all your bio's, when I print out January's posts at the beginning of next month. - I'm sorry for this being so long - peace DG

Age & My JD History

My age is 43 - 44 in May this year. I work as a civilian technical officer / draftsman for the Royal Australian Navy, and as I said about a week ago, have just notched up 25 years in the same line of work. I have been married to Julie for nearly 14 years (March 3), and we have 3 children. I presently have 53 JD albums on CD, and about 25 on LP, plus 2 Mitchell Trio albums on LP. I have about 8 to 10 on CD still to get. My favourite album at present is Windsong, and the songs of Poems, Prayers and Promises and The Wings That Fly Us Home. (BTW Rory - I also loved Around and Around when I first got it on CD - I also love Tools from Aerie.) I have never had any albums of any sort on 8 track, and only ever bought the Back Home Again album on cassette. I only have one single - Country Roads and Poems, Prayers and Promises, which I came across the day my copy of The Rocky Mountain Collection came in - two years ago next May. I am about to get the single of Whispering Jesse. I still have a turntable hooked up, but rarely use it nowadays. Back Home Again was my first JD album - on tape, after hearing it for the first time on Christmas Day in 1974. I was hooked. GH#1 was my first album on both LP and CD. To Rory, I hope your grandfather will be OK. My father turns 79 on Feb 2. He is doing well now in a retirement village. He had an angina attack 12 months ago this week just gone. Which reminds me, I must get back up and see him again soon. For those of you who want to write inspired comments on this page, don't write them on-line, write what you want to say while you are off-line in your word processor, then highlight it, copy it, and paste it into the message box on the Family Page. You have time to think about what you are going to say, and can write it in a more relaxed and comfortable environment. I started this originally when I first started accessing this page, and as I could only do it at work in the library at lunchtimes, I would have to take advantage of my time on the net, so I would write it away from the net access, and download it off the disc. It also gives you more time to browse around the web. You can always make a shorter second comment later if something catches your eye that may need your input. Actually, when I was receiving the posts at work of each posting to this page, it was great, although a bit overwhelming, as I was at work when most of you were on-line in your evenings, and I could add a comment if it warranted it, but now I don't get on-line til late in the night, and by that stage, I have missed out on the topic of conversation for that period of time. But, I don't want to get back to receiving each post separately - not with the shear volume of posts being made each day. I was sent the double JD album - Henry John Deutschendorf Genannt - Seine Großen Erfolge - the other day. Does anyone (particularly in Europe) know of the translation into English - many thanks in anticipation. For those who have not heard of this album - it is Greatest Hits Vols 1 and 2, packaged as a double CD set. It was originally released in Germany in 1990. Finally, can I make a general comment about posting messages: try not and use capitals for your entire post. If you want to highlight a section - fine - but not the lot - peace DG

Hi folks - For those of you waiting for the video tapes, I'm not sure what stage Paula Higgins is at, as I haven't heard how she is going with getting them converted to the US NTSC system. I finally received another copy of the 1977 Sydney concert, and the tape I went with before Christmas was generally of a better quality, although the sound in it in a few places is a little suspect.

Hi Rory and others - I use Internet Explorer 4.40 and Netscape 4.40. I think the page looked better two days ago on my IE than it does now, but it now looks better on my Netscape! Netscape before just didn't look right, but most of the other pages all over the place appeared OK. I really only use IE for this page - peace DG!

I have a proposal to put to everyone. Sometime I would like it as our tribute to thank John for all that he has done for us, for all of us to play the same song at the same time. Problems are: which song and at what time. Time - six months to the day and time, which happens to be 5:27/28 pm (I think) Pacific Time (US), on Easter Sunday - April 12; and the song - The Wings That Fly Us Home. How about it folks, any comments - peace DG

I would love to see a CD filled with John's yodelling and semi-yodelling songs - such as: Calypso (from Earth Songs), Wrangle Mountain Song (from Spirit), Waiting On A Train (from All Aboard), Cowboy's Delight, Spirit and Shipmates & Cheyenne (all from Windsong) - Any other suggestions! - peace DG

It was so hot here today, that after I mowed the grass as early as I could, I just took off my shoes and shirt, and flopped into the children's wading pool - peace DG!

Tonight I had to get a statutory declaration signed by a Justice of the Peace stating that I had sent some CDs of John's to the US, and they had somehow not made it after nearly 4 months. I knew a man lived up the road (5 houses away) who was one. I went and got it signed, and got talking to him about what it was about. It was after that, when I saw his stamp, that I saw his name wass John Denyer - and he said to me that he always gets confused namewise with our John! peace DG

I am basically a very shy person. I hate meeting new people. I hate speaking in public, and I hate making speeches, but I get a real buzz writing to this page, knowing that an audience is out there who will listen to what I am saying, and also understands. That is what is so great about this page. I must also add a comment about the media review of the Celebration of ife album, and the comment about Rocky Mountain High - about it not straying much from the original version. In my mind, RMH from the original album and RMH from the Celebration album are very different. Maybe the words are the same, but the arrangements are completely different. Maybe because we are such devoted fans that we can easily pick the sublte differences! On Saturday evening, I found the Playboy interview, so I downloaded it and printed it out. On Sunday, I went looking for it so I could read it in full - I looked high and lo - but I couldn?t find it anywhere - so looks like I will have to print it out again! BTW - this Friday marks 25 years with me doing the same job - I haven?t been in the same job all that time - more or less the same field. Naval Ship Design! peace DG
