| Question #13707 | From:Harlean | Email: |
| Subject:Windstar Philosophy | Date:2/25/2006 10:58:40 AM | |
Question:I have a memory of John, that I have discussed with others recently, memories vary on where it took place TV, Symposium...??? but John was really ripping into Lawrence Rawl (CEO of Exxon when the Exxon Valdez went aground in Alaska) Then there was a break, and when John came back from the break he apologized for having done so. He said that someone had pointed out to him during the break that what he was doing was not "You and Me" and what he (John was committed to was "You and Me" not "you or me" and that he would contact Mr Rawl., and work with him in a you and me manner. There is a growing divisiveness in Johns fan sites and I have also seen it in Windstar at times. Windstar was John's demonstration of "You and me". It was both an environmental organization in the traditional sense plus Windstar's philosophy also included personal environment how one saw and responded to the world, which is where "You and me" fit into relationships I know you can't do anything about the fan sites. Is Windstar becoming more traditionally environmentally based? Or does it still also embrace the "You and Me philosophy in relating to one another? If it does still embrace "You and Me" How do you see "You and me" being present in Windstar in the future? |
||
| Reply:
Windstar is educating about the environment! "You and Me," is a, "Mindset," (if you will) as to think from that spot, or place, and act from that place. To function in life on a daily basis from a mentality of, "You & Me," and Windstar will continue to operate and embrace that philosophy. |

| Question #13722 | From:Jenny Bliss | Email:jbliss61@yahoo.com |
| Subject:General Comment From Jenny Bliss | Date:2/25/2006 11:03:22 AM | |
Question:When I checked the website this morning, it said May of 2005. Was that an error? |
||
| Reply:
Jenny, I just went to it to make sure before giving you the dates, and it is all there now. Maybe it was a needed update. Our "Webmaster" is also our "Newsletter Editor," and our "Executive Director," so some th9ings may need to be kupdated from time to time. I can't believe we khave that much talent doing so much for so little to help us. She (Debbie) is really great, and needs help. |

| Question #13758 | From:Christine | Email:christine@fojd.org.uk |
| Subject:Last Year's Symposium | Date:2/25/2006 11:19:13 AM | |
Question:I've clicked the link on Windstar's home page to download the speaker presentations from last year's Symposium, but I can only get a Webcast page, requiring registration. How do I access the Downloadable presentations? Christine |
||
| Reply:
Christine, Thanks and go ahead and register. That is how Kidsonline keeps track of our symposium usage for inhouse data only. You don't have to pay or anything, or give that much info. |
||
| Question #13792 | From:Steph | Email: |
| Subject:General Comment From Steph | Date:2/25/2006 11:39:13 AM | |
Question:Ron, Thanks for another wonderful Windstar Chat session. I think it's a great way for us who care about Windstar to communicate and keeping the ball rolling. What do you think is the most important thing John left behind for us at Windstar (besides Windstar itself)? Where do you think he would have liked us to focus our energy and outreach? |
||
| Reply:
Steph, John would have wanted us to keep Windstar going as we are, doing what we are. The "Mission and Vision," which John and Tom created is most importantly that part of Windstar. From that comes the outreach etc. |
||

Good Day Everyone, Thanks for joing us on the chat. I want to start the year off by telling any and all of our members that I have found a couple batches, (a lot) of letters which I always want to personaly sign and say, "Thank You," on before sending out. If there are any of you out there or if you know of someone out there who didn't receive a letter acknowledging their joining or renewal, we now know why! They will be arriving soon, as late as they may be. Also I want to say, "Thank You," to all of you for your support and involvement. Windstar is working because of,"YOU!" |
| 13727 | 2/25/2006 11:05:37 AM | Jenny Bliss |
thanks for the tip. Liz. I have had no problems as of yet. |

I'm here working on my vineyard, today. I have about 200 more plants to put in, in the next two weeks... now that spring is nearly here. I'll be bringing a backhoe in here and digging the rows on Friday, Sat, and Sunday next week. So, I'm sitting here planning out planting areas and varieties, right now. |
| 13760 | 2/25/2006 11:19:54 AM | Christine |
Hi Rosemary - good to see you made it - I'd noticed your test the other day. |
| 13761 | 2/25/2006 11:20:07 AM | Jenny Bliss |
So, what's the biggest issue today for Windstar? ...I'm mean, as for today's chat...what's our topic? |
| 13762 | 2/25/2006 11:20:22 AM | Rosemary Gallagher |
It really is like having a world family its great |
| 13763 | 2/25/2006 11:20:33 AM | Liz Seger |
what kinds of plants are you thinking about rory? |
| 13764 | 2/25/2006 11:21:15 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
red wine varieties, mostly, with one or two white wine varieties just for fun. |
| 13765 | 2/25/2006 11:21:48 AM | Liz Seger |
cool rory |
| 13766 | 2/25/2006 11:22:25 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
I'm dealing with all organic, here. After talking w/ Jane Goodall at Windstar, last year, and being that type of person, myself, i am leaning heavily towards organic growing. |
| 13767 | 2/25/2006 11:22:50 AM | Liz Seger |
fantastic rory! |
| 13768 | 2/25/2006 11:23:39 AM | Ron D |
Windstar needs to expand our membership base and our support, so we can continue moving forward. This means we need, "More Money!" Ha! Ha! No really th8is is what we need help with. What can we all do to make that happen? |
| 13769 | 2/25/2006 11:24:57 AM | Robbin |
Hello All! |
| 13770 | 2/25/2006 11:25:04 AM | Liz Seger |
many non profits here are asking the same thing Ron, it's getting the word out the best ways we can I guess. |
| 13771 | 2/25/2006 11:25:41 AM | Jenny Bliss |
I recently found a local organization in Ohio called "Common Ground" They do summer camps about the environment. I am going to contact them and see if they have heard of Windstar! I would also like to see how I can volunteer with them. |
| 13772 | 2/25/2006 11:26:06 AM | Christine |
Hi Robbin |
| 13773 | 2/25/2006 11:26:28 AM | Liz Seger |
hi Robin |
| 13774 | 2/25/2006 11:27:01 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
We have so many people, so many talents, and so many diverse areas. I know that we have our quarterly newsletter which is physically mailed, but there are so many times when hearing from others about what's going on in their local areas would... fuel other groups fires, etc. |
| 13775 | 2/25/2006 11:27:30 AM | Ron D |
Jenny, that sounds great. If they have or have not heard of us tell them about our EarthCamps, also. |
| 13776 | 2/25/2006 11:28:05 AM | Harlean |
Coming up with ideas to network with others |
| 13777 | 2/25/2006 11:28:24 AM | Steph |
Hi everybody! I'm catching up on the chat |
| 13778 | 2/25/2006 11:28:34 AM | Harlean |
And implementing them. |
| 13779 | 2/25/2006 11:28:52 AM | Christine |
Hi Steph - great to "see" you! |
| 13780 | 2/25/2006 11:28:58 AM | Jenny Bliss |
I will, Ron. |
| 13781 | 2/25/2006 11:29:26 AM | Liz Seger |
grin just doing a series of articles on networking at the moment , it's getting ones friends and social networks together and talking about how we can make it better, what I call the windstar spirit, you and me working togher to make a better planet. |
| 13782 | 2/25/2006 11:30:01 AM | Steph |
Good to see you too Christine! Thanks for the reminder email! |
| 13783 | 2/25/2006 11:31:37 AM | Robbin |
Our connection group has received confirmation from Michael @ Plant-It 2020 and we are going to help fund and plant some trees at one of our state park campgrounds. He suggested we contact local media--TV stations, radio, newspapers, etc.--about our event, which will help het our group's name out to the public as well as Windstar's! |
| 13784 | 2/25/2006 11:35:05 AM | |
|
| 13785 | 2/25/2006 11:35:11 AM | Christine |
Looks a bit quiet right now so I'll take a break and get dinner (it's 5:35 pm here). I'll be back - this is a 2 hour chat, right? |
| 13786 | 2/25/2006 11:35:32 AM | Rosemary Gallagher |
I wonder if we could do an article in the Uk's quilting magazines re the peace cloth - we could mention windstar and its Philosophy in it? |
| 13787 | 2/25/2006 11:36:50 AM | Rosemary Gallagher |
Have a nice dinner Christine - enjoy! |
| 13788 | 2/25/2006 11:37:24 AM | Laurie Kern |
whenever we are preparing for an event I always post the informaiton and a link to the Windstar site on www.craigslist.org I get more feedback from there...than any other advertising |
| 13789 | 2/25/2006 11:37:25 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
I think that's great, but I want there to be a good connection or relationship between windstar groups and windstar core. I'm not totally sure what I mean by that, but something to the fact that they build each other up. We as members are there to build up all of Windstar, and vice versa. And... perhaps that's working well, now, but I just want to see that in all it's wonder, so to speak. |
| 13790 | 2/25/2006 11:37:27 AM | Christine |
I'll sign on my laptop so I can take a peek during dinner :-) |
| 13791 | 2/25/2006 11:37:35 AM | Liz Seger |
Every little bit helps Rosemary |
| 13793 | 2/25/2006 11:39:46 AM | Steph |
Hi Rory! Wuz up my friend? |
| 13794 | 2/25/2006 11:40:06 AM | Ron D |
Robbin, This is all good, and I don't want to take issue with Plant it as trees are needed, but my question would be instead of supporting Plant it, which pays Michaels (Hal's son)healthy salary,as well as possibly others, why not more suppoort to Windstar? |
| 13796 | 2/25/2006 11:45:23 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
(Good point there, Ron.... Been down that road. ) |
| 13797 | 2/25/2006 11:45:59 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
Steph! Lov ya, kiddo! Hope the world is treating you right! (Miss ya bunches, too) |
| 13798 | 2/25/2006 11:46:43 AM | Robbin |
I agree, Ron, but I wouldn't know how to go about this on my own, raising awareness and recognition. Even though this doesn't send any actual dollars to Windstar, it may get others asking about us and from there, hopefully, will come the funds. |
| 13799 | 2/25/2006 11:47:24 AM | Deb Chilton |
Ron, I agree great idea. Windstar could really use the spport. |
| 13800 | 2/25/2006 11:48:08 AM | Liz Seger |
robin is there an arboreatum in your area, a conservation society who might join in with you? |
| 13801 | 2/25/2006 11:50:04 AM | Nancy Anglin |
Hi everyone...it's been so long since I've been able to sit in on a chat..It's nice to be here. |
| 13802 | 2/25/2006 11:50:22 AM | Liz Seger |
Great to see you Nancy! |
| 13803 | 2/25/2006 11:50:37 AM | Robbin |
We have "joined" several local conservation societies, but other than a listing on their websites, I haven't actually seen any activity come from these connections.. yet, anyway. We joined a couple of different ones this year so we'll see. |
| 13804 | 2/25/2006 11:50:48 AM | Harlean |
hello Nancy |
| 13805 | 2/25/2006 11:51:12 AM | Liz Seger |
perhaps make a presentation to them about Windstar? |
| 13806 | 2/25/2006 11:51:35 AM | Deb Chilton |
hey there nancy |
| 13807 | 2/25/2006 11:52:08 AM | Nancy Anglin |
Hi Liz, Harlean, Deb ...just catching up |
| 13808 | 2/25/2006 11:53:26 AM | Ron D |
Robbin, I really did mean that is great, as we need and want to continue with the effort to grow more on this planet. It just seems to me that very often we see press about something else and then put our energy there instead of putting energy in more actively getting awareness of Windstar out there. How can we all get more attention on Windstar? |
| 13809 | 2/25/2006 11:53:52 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
I think Windstar has many good people who are actively involved in working on initiatives that are good, beneficial for the world and Windstar, and are great team efforts. Do we think that Windstar has core activities that groups can participate in and come together to share in, on a reasonable time basis? The Symposium is one thing none of us miss. Maybe the connection groups could play a more interactive role with it? |

Good morning. Sorry to be late getting on. Thank you, Ron, for doing this, and thank you Rory and Harlean, and whoever else put the logistics together. I appreciate the opportunity to sit in. |

Hello All |
| 13812 | 2/25/2006 11:55:56 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
Harlean and Ron and Debbie take the credit, this time, not me :), but thanks! |
| 13813 | 2/25/2006 11:56:15 AM | Jenny Bliss |
I thought that was the purpose of the connection groups, but they seem to be doing their own "thing". |
| 13814 | 2/25/2006 11:56:32 AM | ME |
Hi Ron-Glad you could take time out to chat and fill us in on recent news |
| 13815 | 2/25/2006 11:57:26 AM | Harlean |
Oh Rory They moved server on you and you had to make sure everything was working again so you too.. :-) |
| 13816 | 2/25/2006 11:57:32 AM | Liz Seger |
Hi ME, Jennifer |

Hi Rory how are you --so good to 'see' you =) |
| 13818 | 2/25/2006 11:57:35 AM | Robbin |
And, it should go without saying, any of your thoughts, ideas, suggestions are ALWAYS appreciated!! |

Hey Lizzy =) |
| 13820 | 2/25/2006 11:58:34 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
Jenny, I've always asked why our groups, as great as they are, aren't as interactive with other groups or w/ wstar. I so much think that there's a level there that we could strengthen, and make a very, very powerful, life-giving force to empower both groups and core. |
| 13821 | 2/25/2006 11:58:43 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
(Yo, ME!!!) |
| 13822 | 2/25/2006 11:58:58 AM | Jennifer Moore |
I was wondering if anyone has ANY idea how Cheryl Charles and Bob Samples are doing? |
| 13823 | 2/25/2006 11:59:17 AM | Deb Chilton |
jenny I'm not sure what you meant by your thought about connection groups |
| 13824 | 2/25/2006 11:59:29 AM | ME |
HEhehee Hey been writing some new music will e-mail the details later !!! |
| 13825 | 2/25/2006 11:59:32 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
Harlean might know. i do not know bob that well. |
| 13826 | 2/25/2006 11:59:49 AM | Rory-Downstairs |
Deb might know, too. |
| 13827 | 2/25/2006 11:59:51 AM | Liz Seger |
I've said this before but contacting one's local media is the first step. I know most local newspapers have quieter days where they're looking for news , same with your local radio stations. |
| 13828 | 2/25/2006 12:01:31 PM | Rory-Downstairs |
I think you're right, but, all kidding aside, I am a complete idiot when it comes to contacting a news agency. perhaps you could email to WSConnections some tips ? |
| 13829 | 2/25/2006 12:02:37 PM | Harlean |
Jennifer I'm planning on contacting Cheryl Charles shortly, I'll let you know how they are doing |
| 13830 | 2/25/2006 12:02:54 PM | Liz Seger |
hahahahaah it's called networking , pick up your local newspaper , find the editor or newsroom editor and call him or her |
| 13831 | 2/25/2006 12:02:55 PM | Jennifer Moore |
I go back to early 1989 with the Colorado Connection group and it always seemed like we had more energy, more members, and better interaction with the other groups when the Connections Program used to have monthly conference calls, rather than the quarterly calls we've had for the past 8 or 10 years, or however long it's been. It was a financial decision, but I'd love to see the calls go bi-monthly, or something, so we could interact more frequently. Any ideas? |
| 13832 | 2/25/2006 12:03:25 PM | ME |
Well there are press kits now aren't there and other avenues of informing the media of local and not so local events and programs -right? |
| 13833 | 2/25/2006 12:03:31 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Thanks, Harlean. I'd appreciate knowing how Cheryl and Bob are. |
| 13834 | 2/25/2006 12:03:42 PM | Ron D |
Rory, Don't misunderstand me. Windstar has many many wonderful members who we know are actively involved in other initiatives and this is also needed. I don't want to take away from that. I am just trying to keep the focus on Windstar. We are all working very hard, from Board on to Connections to every active part of Windstar. We are doing wonderful things. We want to become more financialy strong so we can continue to do more locally and with more outreach! |
| 13835 | 2/25/2006 12:03:59 PM | Liz Seger |
If you have local tv news station call up one of the reporters tell them about what you're doing |
| 13836 | 2/25/2006 12:04:04 PM | ME |
Hey hey Harlean!! |
| 13837 | 2/25/2006 12:04:39 PM | Rory-Downstairs |
I understand, Ron. Financial soundness is always a serious priority. |
| 13838 | 2/25/2006 12:05:15 PM | Liz Seger |
put your events in the community calendars of the paper. Talk to hs or college radio stations about Windstar |
| 13839 | 2/25/2006 12:05:49 PM | Rory-Downstairs |
(Harlean, Jessie says hi) |
| 13840 | 2/25/2006 12:05:51 PM | Jennifer Moore |
I've worked with radio, print and even TV media for various Colorado Connection events and sometimes for events for Windstar. Press releases need to be short and very precise. If you can find out a person's name to send it to, it always helps. Put together your own "flyer" about your event and just go in to a local radio station or newspaper in your area and present yourself. IF you come prepared with something they can use, pretty much "as is" you have a higher success rate of them using it. |
| 13841 | 2/25/2006 12:06:18 PM | Liz Seger |
I know it's scary at first but reporters are people too, ofentimes interested in the same things you are. |
| 13842 | 2/25/2006 12:06:31 PM | Harlean |
So here are some of the ideas I've had lately to promote Windstar on the individual level. I work in a large retail store. Many folks from a 60 |
| 13843 | 2/25/2006 12:06:38 PM | Rory-Downstairs |
I guess so |

| 13846 | 2/25/2006 12:07:49 PM | Harlean |
OOPS radius vist the store Many of them are teachers so I write the Windstar website on the back of thier reciept so they can find out about the Symposium |

Good tips Jennifer and Lizzy thanks for sharing your experience ! |

Hey Hey HARLEAN |
| 13850 | 2/25/2006 12:08:50 PM | Ron D |
The last I spoke to Cheryl, (or maybe it was by email) she was doing great and Bob was doing fine also. She was very pleased with all we/Windstar were doing, and sent her best wishes to all. |
| 13851 | 2/25/2006 12:10:04 PM | Liz Seger |
any press release has to ask these basic questions who-the name of the organization, what - what is you're doing , when, when is the event being held , why, the purpose and how, people can be notified to help or volunteer |
| 13852 | 2/25/2006 12:10:19 PM | Harlean |
There were also the annual Garfield county community service awards recently, and all the people who went were in the paper along with their organization's names so that helps in contacting other like minded organizations to network with and I thought about giving some of those folks a call and letting them know about Windstar |
| 13853 | 2/25/2006 12:10:39 PM | Harlean |
HI Me thanks Liz |
| 13854 | 2/25/2006 12:11:05 PM | ME |
I know many teachers and educators and health care workers-I talk about Windstar with them too and when I get newsletters will share the info |
| 13855 | 2/25/2006 12:11:07 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Ron, That's wonderful to hear about Cheryl and Bob. They are both such special people -- their contribution to my entire life through Windstar is imeseasurable. I'm glad Bob is doing better. |
| 13856 | 2/25/2006 12:11:16 PM | Liz Seger |
does windstar have networking cards the connections groups could use to tell people about windstar? |
| 13857 | 2/25/2006 12:12:49 PM | ME |
Those newsletters are a great way to keep us all current-any way there could be an online Newsletter ?? |
| 13858 | 2/25/2006 12:12:57 PM | Steph |
Speaking of media coverage: some outlets pay close attention to this: If you're announcing something, title it a Press Release. If you're requesting coverage or asking for press, title it a Media Alert. |
| 13859 | 2/25/2006 12:13:00 PM | Deb Chilton |
liz what are connection cards |
| 13860 | 2/25/2006 12:13:34 PM | Jenny Bliss |
Sorry, I've got company and need to sign off. But what I meant was, I don't hear anything about the local connection company unless I go direct to their website, or look it up on Windstar's site. There isn't any local adversing, or very little. |
| 13861 | 2/25/2006 12:13:40 PM | Liz Seger |
they're like a business card Deb, but hae all the windstar info on it phone number , web address, mailing address |

Hello folks! Long time no 'see!' It's so good to hear from everyone again and especially form Ron! Can't stay and talk this time...got plans this afternoon! Just wanted to check in and say, "Hello!" to all and hope that you are well...fat and sassy like me! Ha! Have fun solving the problems of the world, and especially Windstar! As a Windstar Connection Group, we always present ourselves as a Windstar group, so where we are, so goes Windstar. Is this not the norm for all Connection Groups? |
| 13866 | 2/25/2006 12:14:24 PM | Liz Seger |
when you meet someone you think may be interested you give em a card, if you want you can put your name on the back , gets the word out faster and you start building your own network |
| 13867 | 2/25/2006 12:14:49 PM | Liz Seger |
Nice to have met you Jenny B |
| 13868 | 2/25/2006 12:15:45 PM | Deb Chilton |
yes this is the norm |
| 13869 | 2/25/2006 12:16:38 PM | Liz Seger |
ok that's all I wanted to know Deb if windstar was already doing that , it helps alot gives windstar a face and a name. |
| 13870 | 2/25/2006 12:17:18 PM | Liz Seger |
to be in contact with in real time so to speak. |
| 13871 | 2/25/2006 12:17:47 PM | ME |
well I was thinking that sometimes people are a bit hesitant to take a card but if there was a place they could research for themselves-like the website-which is TERRIFIC by the way or a newsletter or the like that would reach the silent majority that WANT to get involved but find it difficult to Say they do |
| 13872 | 2/25/2006 12:19:24 PM | Barbara Davis |
I think I got lost--I don't think Windstar has networking cards, do we? |
| 13873 | 2/25/2006 12:19:38 PM | Liz Seger |
if they want a speaker it's oh i can talk to Rory Young , or Mary Ellen O'Brien or Deb Chilton |
| 13874 | 2/25/2006 12:20:15 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Deb and Harlean: I see Mary Edenbaugh Hays in the Hot Springs Pool (in Glenwood) somewhat frequently. I talked to her for about an hour on Thursday. As many of you probably know, she was the editor of the Aspen Times Newspaper for many years, does the photos for all the events to this day. I have repeatedly asked her to Windstar events and Connection events, but she and her husband are in their 80's and she has such a busy schedule I have yet to get her to attend anything. I would like to talke to you two about how to approach her to see if we can get her to the Symposium this fall! Getting support from her could have wide-reaching coverage! |
| 13875 | 2/25/2006 12:20:17 PM | Liz Seger |
you can actually design them yourselves |
| 13876 | 2/25/2006 12:21:00 PM | Christine |

These Tribute concerts are a real crowd pleaser too and events like that which not only raise awareness but I think actually spur local and regional action on the part of groups and interested individuals |
| 13879 | 2/25/2006 12:21:31 PM | Harlean |
Jennifer, I think Debbie Murphy would be the best peoson to talk to |

wb, sorry jazz is typing LOL |
| 13881 | 2/25/2006 12:22:11 PM | Rory Young |
VistaPrint.com has 250-500 business cards you could make for your group for, like, $5.00 ship&hndlng |

| 13884 | 2/25/2006 12:22:35 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Great, Harlean, I'll contact Debby Murphy. |
| 13885 | 2/25/2006 12:22:55 PM | Christine |
Hi ME! |
| 13886 | 2/25/2006 12:24:50 PM | Ilona |
Hi Ron, I don’t know about the possibilities you have in your country to let people know about organizations like Windstar. In Germany such organizations use events, street markets and so on to let people know about their program and their aims. A mall for example would be a good place to inform people about Windstar. |
| 13887 | 2/25/2006 12:26:04 PM | Liz Seger |
great idea too Ilonna! You can do that in most malls in Canada too , although you must reserve a day and time |
| 13888 | 2/25/2006 12:26:10 PM | Christine |
Hi Ilona. In England too, organisations set up stalls in busy shopping centres and hand out flyers to the shoppers. |
| 13889 | 2/25/2006 12:27:52 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Tribute concerts are wonderful, but they can be a lot of work. I put together a "quick and dirty" little project Dec. 2004 that earned a quick $700+ for Windstar directly. I contacted photographer John Fielder's office, scheduled a date for him to come to Aspen, got really bold and asked the Mtn. Chalet for the moon, and got it REALLY cheep, promoted about $2500 in print and radio ad coverage for free, and so forth. Harlean helped me along the way and rounded up some "warm bodies" to help the night of the program with book sales and logistics, and it was great. Think simple and you won't over-stress your entire team. |
| 13890 | 2/25/2006 12:28:11 PM | ME |
It may be that Windstar would be greatly helped by creating more opportunities for larger concerts of this type through developing the outreach of local and regional groups to performers and venues alike |
| 13891 | 2/25/2006 12:29:17 PM | Ursel Spiller |
how are you? hope you are well. I'm here in Bremen, Germany, and I'm listing JD "Leaving on a Jet Plane" It is one of my favorite songs. |
| 13892 | 2/25/2006 12:29:39 PM | Ron D |
Deb Chilton, Maybe one of the activities the Connections could tackle is contacting the "Fan/Friends," clubs and make them aware of what we are doing and see why they haven't decided to support this part of John's legacy (Windstar) also more actively |
| 13893 | 2/25/2006 12:30:08 PM | Christine |
Ursel! Long time no hear :-( I remember being with you at Windstar a few years ago :-) |
| 13894 | 2/25/2006 12:30:12 PM | ME |
That could be done through public announcements -radio spots on pbs radio and the websites of the performers involved along with a directory maybe on Windstars's site too for the Big Picture so to speak |
| 13895 | 2/25/2006 12:30:45 PM | ME |
What do you think Rory? |
| 13896 | 2/25/2006 12:30:53 PM | Ron D |
Ilona, Thanks |
| 13897 | 2/25/2006 12:31:03 PM | Deb Chilton |
great idea ron we can do that |
| 13898 | 2/25/2006 12:31:20 PM | ME |
A directory of Tribute concert dates-perfomers and venues? |
| 13899 | 2/25/2006 12:31:47 PM | Christine |
Ron, I think it may have to do with the fact that, in the past, Windstar was keen to distance itself from "fan" groups. people have long memories, and some are cynical when told that things have changed :-( |
| 13900 | 2/25/2006 12:32:24 PM | Liz Seger |
don't forget to let the college/universities and hs radio stations know as well. I know there's been a resurgence in interest of John's music up here |
| 13901 | 2/25/2006 12:33:02 PM | Christine |
Ursel - I don't have your email address - email me and I can sign you up for my email list - christine@fojd.org.uk |
| 13902 | 2/25/2006 12:33:03 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Emily Parris with her on-line John Denver newsletter format does a great job of listing events, if you get things to her in short, clear sentence format with enough lead time. |
| 13903 | 2/25/2006 12:33:08 PM | Rory Young |
Oh, sorry, bout what, ME? Bout the speaker? Been getting ready ww/ kids here at home. |
| 13904 | 2/25/2006 12:33:09 PM | Barbara Davis |
Christine, how do we change that? |
| 13905 | 2/25/2006 12:33:33 PM | Ron D |
Jennifer, That was a good event and did help, Thanks again |
| 13906 | 2/25/2006 12:34:01 PM | Ursel Spiller |
Hi Christine, how are you? It is very nice that you remember me, it was a nice time then. Where are you now? Ron, tell me a good question to ask you, I'm so nervous to be in this chat with you. |
| 13907 | 2/25/2006 12:34:03 PM | Liz Seger |
yes she does , as does mary ledford with IAT |
| 13908 | 2/25/2006 12:34:17 PM | Ron D |
Ursel, A good song indeed, Welcome |
| 13909 | 2/25/2006 12:35:08 PM | Rory Young |
Christine, on a side note there, I've seen that getting better. Plus, when we get letters to J-D.org, we sometimes send them over to you guys. I know that windstar has been really open to us. |
| 13910 | 2/25/2006 12:35:48 PM | Harlean |
The Chat is on J-D.org LOL |
| 13911 | 2/25/2006 12:35:55 PM | Christine |
Barbara, I don't know :-( I would like my group to be more involved with Windstar, but I don't have time to run a separate group and have been told the two cannot be combined. |
| 13912 | 2/25/2006 12:36:19 PM | ME |
Rory and Jennifer-yes Tribute concerts are work but in usually do offer great results in the areas of grassroots support and (numbers) and rejuvenation of sometimes drifting focus |
| 13913 | 2/25/2006 12:36:32 PM | Christine |
About tribute concerts - I list all the UK ones on my site - www.fojd.org.uk - and also email my list about them. |
| 13914 | 2/25/2006 12:37:13 PM | Jennifer Moore |
Christine is correct about the past history of the Foundation (sor of requiring the connections to be) distanced from JD. It has changed, but I agree that the "suspecion" is still there. But everyone is SO right that Windstar IS the biggest and best tangable entity we can all get behind and participate with. It is SUCH an opportunity for ALL the old (and new) fans to put John's words and life goals into action. But touching that resource (fans) is the tough part. Deb, I'm just down the road in Glenwood. Let me know if we can get together and brainstorm sometime. |
| 13915 | 2/25/2006 12:37:17 PM | Robbin |
Jennifer, That's a good idea about Emily's newsletter. There is always a great list of events! |
| 13916 | 2/25/2006 12:37:23 PM | Ilona |
Ron, I think the fan clubs are aware of what Windstar is doing. The problem is that most of the members outside the U.S. think that there is a lot to do in their own country also and prefer to give money to local organizations. |
| 13917 | 2/25/2006 12:37:37 PM | Ursel Spiller |
Christine, thanks. My e-mail address is urselspiller@aol.com , will be pleased to hear from you. Ron, hope you are well, too. Thanks your nice words, have a nice time, take care. |

and they are only one facet of a larger(it is hoped) supprt network once they get the word out that is |
| 13919 | 2/25/2006 12:38:11 PM | Liz Seger |
and of course the exchange rate plays a bit part in membership, but we've been thru that before. |

| 13921 | 2/25/2006 12:38:22 PM | Christine |
Rory - yes, I've received and responded to the messages that you and Mary forward. Thanks for putting the people in touch with me. My page does come top when I search for "John Denver" on www.google.co.uk so it isn't hard for UK people to find! Or shouldn't be. |
| 13922 | 2/25/2006 12:38:51 PM | Rory Young |
cool! |

Cool Christine! Friends around the campfire are friends forever!! |
| 13924 | 2/25/2006 12:39:42 PM | Ron D |
Christine, Make the fan's/friends groups aware of Windstar, and they can join as members in that way and if a group of them somewhere want to start or join a connection then that is how it would work. |
| 13925 | 2/25/2006 12:41:17 PM | Liz Seger |
barb, deb , maybe you could outline briefly what a connections group has to do to be a connections group |
| 13926 | 2/25/2006 12:41:35 PM | Christine |
Ron - I sent details of this chat to all of my group members, with a reminder last night, and I also posted at another JD site I frequent - but not many of those people seem to be here :-( |
| 13927 | 2/25/2006 12:42:41 PM | Christine |
I think many people are happy to pay lip service to John's ideas but are not so willing to put their money and/or time where their mouth is :-( |
| 13928 | 2/25/2006 12:42:43 PM | Liz Seger |
perhaps due to time differences Christine? |
| 13929 | 2/25/2006 12:42:47 PM | Rosemary Gallagher |
Christine- we will have to bend their ears on JD day |
| 13930 | 2/25/2006 12:42:57 PM | Jennifer Moore |
There are SO many wonderful people from all over Europe who come to Aspen in October, it would sure be nice to figure out a way to assist them in putting together a symposium or something over there! |

This year has been horrible in terms of natural and man-made disasters--unprecedented really-what with Katrina- Rita and then there are wars and global man made problems it is hard to support all you want to in a meaningful way |

Talking of money/membership - has the problem with the $10 surcharge for overseas memberships been fixed yet? Debbie did refund mine, but it would be better if it hadn't been charged to begin with! |

Rosemary - I do try on our Denver Days - you've seen the display board and leaflets - and I always mention Windstar. Allison tried to get support for a Connection at our last day, in November. |

Hi Ron - sorry if this has been asked - I just joined the chat. The best way to promote John's beliefs and Windstar is to keep him in front of the public. We need to have some never-released music put out there and publicized. We need a book of photos John took as he traveled the world. We need you, Annie & maybe Cassandra to get on the talk shows and promote these items. A book could be tied into the new CD. We've had enough recycled music. Please get those photos out there Ron. I'm sure there are thousands that John took. He always had his camera with him! Thanks and all my best to you and your family. |

However Christine and others like the regional connection groups have been busy helping others as well as doing their part to preserve the legacy-this is where networking and concerts and say online outreach really help--we are all in this together and we all need to show our support for each other--that is how Windstar will continue to grow and keep the legacy alive as well |

Also, it is time for all the fans/friends of my brother to quit being stuck in the past and come to the party (so to speak) if they are really friends of my brother! We can work out the different country issues and create more connections etc. We can also get more involved with all local groups who are like minded. Windstar is willing to work with any and all to help reach our goals as our vision/mission statement says. All we need is folks to contact us to reach all of our goals. |
